Asia Cup 2023: India vs Pakistan Match Reserve Day Sparks Controversy

The upcoming India vs Pakistan match in the 2023 Asia Cup has stirred controversy due to the decision to set a reserve day for the game, scheduled for September 10th in Colombo. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) made this choice considering the current weather conditions, but it has raised eyebrows.

While a reserve day has been allocated for the India vs Pakistan clash, other Super Four matches in Sri Lanka have not received the same treatment. This means that if rain disrupts this crucial match, it will resume from where it was halted on the following day. The ACC stated, “A reserve day has been set for the Asia Cup Super Four match between India and Pakistan at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on September 10, 2023.”

This decision prompted Sri Lanka Cricket to weigh in on the matter. Sri Lanka Cricket clarified on their social media platform, X, that the decision was made only after consulting all four participating teams’ respective boards. They stated, “The reserve day for the Asia Cup Super Four match between India and Pakistan was decided with the unanimous agreement of all four board members. Accordingly, the ACC has made necessary adjustments to the tournament’s playing conditions to implement the agreed-upon change effectively.”

Notably, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also supported the ACC’s decision on their social media platform, affirming the consensus among the participating boards.

Sri Lanka Cricket’s revelation underscores that the reserve day for the India-Pakistan match was taken after consultations with all the board members. It’s worth mentioning that the India-Pakistan showdown in the Super Four is scheduled for September 10th, with a reserve day in place. Additionally, a reserve day has been designated for the final match on September 17th.
